Last Show at a Fixed address; Nine Lives to Close
We've decided the old full time gallery front just ain't for us anymore. There will be a few project based exhibitions in the coming months to look out for but for now, we're playing host to one final show in the current space.
It's with our tea drinking, profanity loving English illustrator pal 'French' next week. That's fitting really, he was one of the first to show with us above Mellino's in late 2008 and now he's helping us see out this space with a bang.

Want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the ongoing support over the last few years. We're very happy that we've been able to contribute to ol' Brisbane towns cultural landscape in some way or shape. For a long time this city's been seen as the little sibling to its southern counterparts but we really do think that is changing. Brisbane has plenty going on and there's a bunch of young creatives making that happen.
Come along Thursday, have a beer. We'd love to see you.

BRAVE NEW WORLDS
An exhibition of new artwork by BEASTMAN and LUKE TAAFFE.
After many years of friendship, these now established and prolific Australian artists are coming together for an exhibition exploring their two very distinct artistic styles, featuring paintings that portray alternate worlds, their inhabitants and surrounding natural environments.
Opening Night - Thursday 19 August 2010 6pm Continues until 31 August
Luke Taaffe.
Luke Taaffe is an Artist & Designer from Wamberal on the NSW Central Coast. Currently relocated to Torquay (Victoria) working for women's clothing label Roxy, Luke's flowing and detailed work represents a life living by the ocean and the popular culture associated with it. His work is a colourful and personal journey that reflects a world absorbed by saltwater and the energy around it.
With a love of 60's pop culture, vintage signage, clothing and the Australian coastline as influence, Luke's work which is usually presented on recycled timbers is gaining attention both in Australia and abroad. He is also a partial insomniac preferring to squeeze as much in a day as possible.

Beastman.
Beastman is an artist based in Sydney. Influenced by the beauty and symbolism behind nature's repetitive geometric patterns and its eternal struggle against man-made adversities, Beastman's tightly detailed, symmetrical paintings depict a parallel world of hope and survival inhabited by his scaly-skinned, beastlike yet beautiful and emotive characters. These instantly recognisable and loveable creatures reflect human nature and the everyday burdens and struggles of life that mankind so easily and continuously finds itself lost in.
Beastman has exhibited extensively throughout Australia, as well as London, Berlin and New Zealand. Beastman is an Element Advocate, he was recently commissioned to paint the frontage of the 4ZZZ building in Brisbane and is also the founder and editor of the Australian online art publication [weAREtheIMAGEmakers].

On a side note, if you havent already seen the 4zzz building that beastman has painted, you really should get yourself down there to appreciate it at full size. Truly amazing.

Great turn out for Sam's show last night.
Winter had definitely arrived, it's was real beanie weather.
Come in today (Saturday) or during the week and check-out the show if you missed last night.

Flamingo...open 7 days
We have been hysterical this week as after months of anticipation, The Flamingo Cafe opened it's doors on Winn Street, directly opposite The Outpost.
It's been joyous to have the girls back in The Valley -the energetic, effervescent Christina Hatzipetrou (The Main Squeeze,Yo Mama, Desmond & Molly Jones) and Annette Gillespie(the Main Squeeze, Cantina, Pearl Cafe) have joined forces to give us a genuine laneway cafe with the best damn coffee and delicious food around! The cafe itself is as cute as a button featuring paintings by Brisbane artist Stephen Mok and colourful Cartel stools on Astro Turf under the chirpy yellow and white striped awnings! Great to see The Flamingo Cafe has made it's home in an existing building with Brisbane history and character.

The tale of Bunker Spreckels (1949–1977) reads like a pitch for a movie to rival Boogie Nights: the stepson of Clark Gable is a privileged Los Angeles party boy who is heir to a multimillion dollar fortune; passionate about surfing, martial arts, guns, and women, he lives the life of a debauched international jet-setter before succumbing to his excesses at the tender age of 27.
