We have been hassling Mr Heywood to do a show with us for a while and finally we have locked him down & this Thursday night we have the pleasure of having his work on our gallery walls.

BUSTIN’ DOWN THE DOOR is bangin’. Not just a surf doco, but a journey through a 70’s subculture that saw the birth of pro surfing. It gives you a look at the path that a bunch of young Aussie and South African surfers travelled to become number 1 in the surfing world. Their pioneering styles are what got them recognised, but they’re arrogance and shameless “machismo” is what gets them exiled from the Hawaiian North Shore community and running for their lives. This pivotal point in time is really what sent pro surfing along the path to where it is today. Interviews with the men today and loads of priceless footage of the 74, 75 and 76 Hawaiian winter seasons will get you stoked and feeling Aloha. I was captivated until the end. Great watch, great story. A must see for EVERYONE – surfers and non surfers alike. - Joel Morris

A few years back i moved to Brisbane and started working in west end.
Everyday i would drive home and see this political statement and laugh. Conveniently located near Stefan's head office and one of Australia's biggest mining Offices..

The message was there for over a year around 2007 until someone decided it wasnt the message they wanted in west end! wonder why?

BETWEEN A GHOST AND A GOD, is a solo exhibition of the new works by Justin Williams.
This most recent body of works, based on observation drawings completed in between travels on the way too and from destinations, with no focus taken on the journey. The images are juxtaposed with thoughts made either at the time of the sketches, or thoughts that are integrated into Justin’s every day.

The works also include aspects of religion and conformity, mashed into figurative stages shared by both man and beast. Working in a range of different media, from oils, acrylic, charcoal , water color and graphite, Justin’ s unique blend of expressive imagery capture a dream like state, mixed with ‘every day’ moments that might go unnoticed.

ABOUT JUSTIN:

Justin Williams is a young emerging artists from Melbourne. Justin's works touch on different themes, no matter how bold or subtle they are always from a distance. Not unlike a child looking through a window, using figures and animals as a way of capturing moments between time, Justin's works try to represent a beauty in society while not necessarily using beautiful images to do this. Concentrating more on the beauty within the reality Justin's work capture thoughts of common men and women in a direct response to the world around.
