JESSE OLSEN
Jesse Olsen first came to our attention back in 2006, when his homemade zine Taddle Tale Mountn found its way into our hands. Part illustrative/ part graphic journal, the zine blended Jesse's natural talent as an illustrator/photographer with snippets of emails & letters from friends – to pocket-bashed ticket stubs, and Polaroids of getting busted by cops whilst skating with friends.
Painfully personal (yet completely relatable), and painstakingly pieced together with tape and staples, the zine struck certainly struck a chord with us.
Since then, Jesse Olsen's work has shown up in the best of places, his work on decks have been featured through Seven Skateboards and at the annual I Used To Skate Once show for the past three years - as well as providing the imagery for local acts, promoted nights and house shows. His album art on the now-defunct On/Oxx record almost epitomises why we love and appreciate what Jesse does – detailed and intricate, labour-intensive art. The final product that you see before you has no shortcuts.
If you missed the show he curated earlier this year (in his own house, no less), then you must not miss this exhibition at the Nine Lives Gallery, launching Friday December 5.
